How to Support the Library

Donations

Potomac library offers access to services and resources that connect the people of our county. We are here for you through our fun programs, events, and of course our books. If you would like to help support us, consider donating to our library. The donations you give us will go right back to you through newer books, and facility details. 

Gifts to the library

Gifts to the library are tax-deductible because the library district is considered a sovereign political subdivision of local government, and donations are used for the benefit of the public.

However, donors are encouraged to consult with their tax preparer or legal counsel to ensure that they are complying with tax guidelines. The library will acknowledge gifts with a personal letter that can be filed with the donor’s taxes.

Monetary gifts

Monetary gifts can be made by check payable to the Potomac Public Library District, P.O. Box 171, Potomac, Illinois 61865.

Donations of used books and other materials

The library welcomes donations of gently used, recent books and materials of historical significance about the Potomac community. However, the library cannot accept encyclopedias, or books that are damaged or are out-of-date or of limited use, such as instructional manuals on computer software programs and other reference books.

Before making donations, patrons are encouraged to contact the library director to discuss the items they want to donate.

Please note that the library reserves the right to dispose of materials that it cannot use through used book sales or donations to charitable organizations.

Volunteers

We are always looking for more volunteers here at Potomac. When you volunteer you will get to help with our fun activities, preparing for events, processing and shelving books, and/or general housekeeping things. We would love to have you as a part of our team.
